Our Region
Understanding Our Region
Every day in the Southern Finger Lakes, we make a new connection or rekindle an old one. That’s the nature of living in a region full of small towns, small businesses, and big hearts.
Our network of nonprofit organizations regularly shares resources and ideas through a variety of channels. Local chambers of commerce host roundtables for board members and executive directors, corporate leaders connect employees with volunteer opportunities, and fundraisers attract philanthropic efforts from every corner of the region.
Communities, connected
It’s also true that each municipality has something unique. Check out a Broadway show at the Clemens Center and learn the history of the Underground Railroad at the John Jones Museum in Elmira; make your own glass in Corning; and hike the gorge in Watkins Glen.
The bottom line here is that we are interconnected, and it’s important to us that there’s support, encouragement, and awareness for all. We believe when one segment of the community struggles, we all do – that’s why we work hard every day so every individual may thrive.
“We go beyond any one grant, scholarship, or fund, because we have the financial resources, creative energy, and love to make it happen”
– Randi Hewit, President, Community Foundation
Community Leadership
A community foundation serves as a conduit for helping donors’ gifts reach worthy causes, but the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes also does a great deal more. Given our experience, resources and connections, we’re in an ideal position to serve as a catalyst for change in our region. It’s an honor to work with our community partners on programs such as those described below.
